Daneveller is a reinterpretation of famous « B60 » table football by Bonzini, produced during my Design DNA at EESAB Brest.
My B60 reinterpretation is meant to be collaborative and narrative, by adding some modularity to the original table football. The game itself is rather small compared to its inspiration, and is easily dismantlable and transportable, which makes it ideal for two-players matches. As it should be durable, I chose to use ecologically responsible materials.
The strength of this game is its capacity to be transformed using a variety of obstacles. Players can customize the playing area by introducing elements that influence the ball’s trajectory, such as boards and reliefs. These obstacles, of various shapes and sizes, are not only a complementary challenge : they also enhance the game experience by adding a sort of storytelling to it. Indeed, the basic table football would come with premade themes : for example, the obstacles can be trees, dunes, or even spaceships.
These few default themes are made to invite the younger players into various and enchanting universes. This way, they can discover a forest inhabited by rabbits and bears, a mysterious ocean when squids and fishes fight each other, or even a space far away from us, explored by astronauts and aliens. Each theme comes with its own settings and obstacles, and opens a world of possibilities for players of all ages.
Above the modular aspect, this hypothetical project includes a dynamic community of creators and players, that are the heart itself of the Daneveller’s development. The game’s plans, and those of the thematic obstacles, would be available in open-source, encouraging everyone to create and build their own game, customizing it, and even sharing their creation with the rest of the community. A dedicated website would then become a space for collaboration, inspiration and exchange, that would continuously help to make the game and its experience grow. It would then not only be a game, but a creativity platform, a bridge between generations and a new way to appreciate this shared hobby. By offering an infinity of game configurations and by placing the community at the center of the experiment, the Daneveller aspires to unify its players around a shared love of games, creation and innovation.
An exhibition was held at EESAB Brest, nammed Baby Love!, to showcase the various table football games made during this course. Read the article.
