These pieces were crafted during an intensive week-long workshop at EESAB Rennes with EESAB Brest, with Design Year 3 students from both schools. This workshop, named « Pièce de jonction - Mode d'assemblage » (Junction pieces - Assembly method) was offered by Manon Leblanc and Julien Masson, collaborating with designer Baptiste Meyniel.
In teams of 3 to 4 students, blending EESAB Brest and Rennes together, we were given aluminium remnants to work on, aiming to imagine assembly methods. We had no imposed themes, techniques and tools, nor contraints. We were also authorized to add complimentary materials to our creations. I worked on H shaped tubular metal pieces. We assembled these pieces together by creating third party junctions, initially made of wood, then of plexiglass. Those junction pieces were made using a laser cutting machine. Other attempts were made, stretching the metal pieces using rubber bands, or by using them to create sliding mechanisms.
